November 19th: It’s a bird; it’s a plane; it’s a Super El Niño!
- Dr. Arthur Degaetano
Professor of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Cornell University - A discussion on the El Niño Phenomenon and its affect on global and New York weather. I will also discuss El Niños in a warming world.
December 17th: Skullduggery: The way mammal skulls work
- Dr. Cole Gilbert, Former Director of Undergraduate Biology, Cornell University Biology, Cornell University
- Skulls of mammals are marvels of natural evolution and can inform a lot about how the animal made a living, even if you do not know who owed that skull in life. I will bring a lot of skulls and talk about various attributes of sensory systems and dentition, including the quantitative biomechanics of bite force. No there won’t be a test. This will not be a skull ID workshop per se, but if participants have a found skull they would like identified, we can give it a try after the presentation.
Stay tuned for more exciting topics!
